Kenya, 11th to 18th August 2014
In the recent years, there has been an increasing interest on the perspective related to the inclusion of youth in rural development, visualizing them as strategic actors to promote food security and assure generational change in the field.
Indeed, addressing the needs of rural youth is gathering attention with international development agencies, donors and private companies supporting new initiatives by governmental and non-governmental organizations in many parts of the world and in Africa in particular. Young rural people are a valuable resource for driving rural transformation and combatting poverty, which continues to predominate in rural areas. They are an untapped resource that can enhance future well-being and socio-economic progress.
To address this, IFAD-ESA with the Procasur Corporation , organized the Learning Route "Innovative Ideas and Approaches to Integrate Rural Youth in Agriculture. The progress in Kenya", held between the 11th and the 18th of August 2014.
The Learning Route methodology developed by the Procasur Corporation, is a proven and effective strategy for capacity building focused on practical learning, promoting the exchange between best practices and the scale up of innovations.
The aim of the Learning Route, was to contribute to lessons-sharing and learning at country and regional level in order to build technical capacities within IFAD ́s operations and partners mainly in the ESA region on innovative strategies and approaches to engage rural youth in agriculture, increase employment and reduce poverty.
